Route 66

In 1999 I was experiencing a serious evaluation of my career as a photographer. Photography wasn’t fun anymore

On a trip to Tucumcari, NM to work for a client, I decided to take a Holga camera with me to create some personal images. The Holga is a cheap plastic camera that has no exposure controls and uses 120 film. It is photography at its most basic level. Using it forces the user to critically examine the scene for lighting and composition rather than rely on tecnology to create an image.

The images I created on that trip were fun and resonated with people who saw them.

Over the next 10-12 years I used the Holga to create a series of images of along Route 66 betwwen Tucumcari, NM and Kingman, Az.

Many of the buildings and signs have fallen down or been demolished.
